Specs: Windows Vista
Ok I have this hp pavilion that I purchased from Newegg about a year ago, and I think it's time I just upgrade the mobo, cpu and video card.

problem is the current mobo only supports AMD 64 X2 up 5600+ 89w, but that's not really a huge upgrade to the current 4400+

so I wanna go Intel Lga1775 core 2 7400 wolfdale.

Okay for my question if I swamp out the current mobo for a new one, will I need to install a fresh OS? or will it just work?

I don't have the OS cd or anything.

The Operating System is tied to the HP PC, if you swap out the major components you will have to purchase a NEW O/S.

Why not sell the HP and start with a totally new build...

Response #2 is sound advice. Even if you could get away without reinstalling Windows you might get into changing too many parts.

Depending on how you use your computer the Graphics may be what is the current bottle neck. You may have options there while keeping the current rig.

BTW, you were supposed to make a restore set of disks when you got the computer. You should still be able to. Without the restore set if the hard drive go out you wouldn't have any way to get back into service.

I know, who reads the instructions?
