Comment:

I read Timeline by Michael Crichton and it talks about quantum computing and multiple universes.

I've been reading on slashdot that researchers have been making advancements in quantum computing. Is the theory of multiple universes actually widely accepted? Do researchers actually believe that there are universes existing side-by-side?

The book also says that quantum calculations take place in other universes. Is this actually a real [accepted] theory?
