is it worth it? honestly, a q6700 vs something like an
e8400 which is apparently better of OC'ing too.

You would need to run a performance log to see how your use would fair.

"is it worth it?"

You mean money? They're both available for about 200 bucks.

What's the deal with a question like this...you own a E8400 and want us to pat you on the back?

Depends what your priorities are, the e8400 is faster while the q6700 can run more programs at the same time probably more suitable for those that do a lot of video and photo edditing or 3d work.
I don't know much about games, but I believe that there are not many around that can utilise the quad core to the full, but that can change later.

Why not go with a Core 2 Quad Q9400? It's a better overclocker then the Core 2 Quad Q6700.

Amazingdan are you in the UK?

if so wait for the lynnfield to appear there will be a price drop across the intel range by Nov, or xmas at the latest

Traders are reducing stock of top end intel processors, ok there holding their price for now as the price of a q6600 hasnt budged for well over 8 months, its due to fade away or drop in price.

i see cheaper x58 mobos on the horizon.
gigabyte has started the ball rolling with the GA-EX58-UD3R a substantial under cut of its own flag ship mobos. Look at ..i5 or i7 -way to go if buying new.

youve left it too late and shouldve bought months ago & had the enjoyment. intels given sooo many choices...
Put your feet up & wait for COD5 then see what people are scoring reviews on then buy.

(I agree with amnor resp3 gta4multi core optimized)
btw saw his last week
