Here's the above post:

HI. I have bought a dell dimension 4600 about a year ago with the base integrated soundmax audio. I also purchased 2 speakers w/ subwoofer. I have found, laying around my house, 2 other speaker w/ subwoofer from an old comp of mine. Is there any possible way that i can use all four of these speakers to create 4 channel surround sound with my integrated soundmax (doesn't say soundmax 5.1 or anything, but im not sure if it is or not)? Where do i plug what into? Also, if u could show me a diagram of teh back of a 4600 with soundmax integrated, that would be GREATLY appreciated. It is hard for me to get to the back of my comp, so i would really like a diagrm so that i could just reach around, instead of taking apart my comp desk. Thanks

Hi. Just plug one set of speakers into the line/out Front speaker Out/ and plug the other one's into Rear Speaker Out. If you have another plug for ur sub plug that one (the speakers that are plugged into the front) into the Center/Subwoofer speaker out. I too use this. I have a 5.1 suround speaker set, but i only use the front speakers outta that set, then i have my stereo plugged into the sound card as well as surround speakers (seeing how they sit behind me, and right now i only have a recevier, 2 speakers and a sub). There yah go.

i think only have 3 holes in the back of my comp, and one is for the mic. Does ne1 have a pic of this or ne1 have this integrated card? how would i plug two speakers into the same hole anyway? Do i plug them into the sub and then into the hole? Wut about the other speakers? Do i need to use two subs or do i need a connector of some sort? Thanks

what you will have to do is to buy a sterio 3.6mm jack y-splitter which is 2 female and 1 male... go to radio shack...

then you will plug both sets of speakers into that and then plug the male end of that into your sound card...

I believe that is your only way of getting both sets to work if your card dosn't support 5.1..

meaning that your 3 plugs are== 1) sound out... 2) mike in...3) aux in... that's it

the splitter will run about 5 dollars... here is a link to show you what I am talking about..

You can have 2 sets of speakers on one PC but without a 5.1 channel sound card you wont get the surround effect. It will be the same sounds playing on both sets of speakers. I have a 4.1 channel sound card and still can only get 2.1 sound for some reason, so if you decide to buy a sound card to get surround make sure it is 5.1 and comes with good software.

i don't want 5.1, i just want 4 channel. Also, under control panel/sounds/advanced, it asks me what my speakers are like, and two of the options are 4 channel or 5.1 surround. Does this mean anything or will it still only play the same things on both speakers?

it may play some background sound on the 4 channel setting... all you have to do is to plug the other set into the plug that is an "aux in".. and then switch to the 4 channel and see if it works... if not then you will have to do what I suggested or to buy a new sound card..
