Quick question: Why doesn't AMD use Quad Pumped memory??? I would think that would be easier than having to make everything run faster. Is there some down side to it? Sure seems to work well on the Intels from the benchmarks I have seen.

I think it is because they haven't gotten to the point where the processors need quad pumped memory to run at peak efficiency. Amd has processors at 333mhz fsb which will run just fine on ddr400. Intel has a p4 running on 800mhz fsb but ddr400 only has a bus of 400mhz. So, they double it.

Why wouldn't it help AMD? If it helps intel I would think it would help AMD?
Summary: Engineers A and B get into an argument about a PC that uses quad pumping. A says that the processor is less likely to experience wait cycles when reading instructions from memory. B says that the proc...
Summary: What is quad pumping? i'm curious how 200MHz FSB = 800MHz FSB All the stuff i've read that said 200 = 800 mentioned Quad Pumping - but never quite said what Quad pumping is. Thanks ...
Summary: Granted the CPU's basic bus speed is 200MHz, you have to remember Intel uses the quad pump technology to achieve a 800-MHz speed on the bus line. When Google isn't your best pal ...
