Hi there fellas, I'm thinking of buying HP Vista 64bit computer with following features. My plan is to install XP 32bit after Partitioning the harddrive.

What should I choose from the following two?

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700
6GB of DDR2 memory

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300
4GB DDR2 memory

One has greater memory & the other high processor. Thanks! Cheers!

I would go with the better processor. Memory is cheaper and easier to install. How much is 2gb of DDR2? about $25.
That is if there is available slots to install it and, the machine will accept it.

4GB RAM is the limit for any 32-bit OS.

The Quad is definitely the better CPU. How much of a price difference between the two systems?

If you are going to install Windows 32bit 6Gbs of memory is a waste if time as you will only be able to use a little over half of it.

Hi Jam,
'4GB RAM is the limit for any 32-bit OS.'

I'll be using both OS (V&X)Choosing 4GB will benefit running XP, isn't it?

I dont mind if XP will use lil over half of it. (since I have Vista on the other hand) My concern is Will 6GB slow XP OS? Thanks!

The extra memory wont slow things down at all. It just wont be recognised.

You should run perfmon now on the things you use.

Personally I prefer more and faster ram.

I'd install a virtual machine instead of a partition. What would be the use for the xp?
As above the ram as ram is useless unless you apply a ram drive. Then things speed up a bunch.

Your motherboard chipset may also have to be properly selected.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Well according to my point of view its best to go with the higher processor the reason is most large applications will need a strong processor to run and ram will only help u in temporarily saving what ever current job your doing, but when the current job ur doing crosses the limit of 4GB then what ever oppened applications Idel will get transfered to a virtual memory in the harddisk until its being called again thats where u will have a slight delay in the performance. but with the OS u will be using the maximum limit is 4GB Ram. Its best you go with the higer Processor.
