Hello.

I wanted to know what my options would be for transferring data from PC to PC. I have been using CDR's which are cheap enough but someone yesterday mentioned I should get a usb flash memory thingie (he has a 1 gig lexar and a 1 gig kingston) but we never got to finish the conversation.

I looked them up for some information and I believe that is what I seek. Anyone here with one have any recommendations?

Pretty much need a 1 gig since they are relatively inexpensive and I will use it to transfers data (mpeg, mp3, etc) from one pc to the other that is upstairs and to and from work on occasion.

Thanks for any and all info.

Roberto

What's the question.
They work fine and easier than CDs.

I don't hink it makes much difference in which brand you choose. With WinXP it's plug and play. Get the one that is on sale.

The difficult part is getting to the USB port when it is behind the case and under the desk. I utilize a 3 foot USB extension cable to allieviate that problem.

That's my two cents worth.

Thanks Bryan,

I will get that cord as well somewhere.

The they all look like they wont work on my front usb ports since I have a ridge right under neath so a cord if I have to use a back port would be great.

Thanks again

Roberto

A-data flash drives have always rubbed me the right way, and they're cheap to boot..also my 1gb came with an 18" extension cable, so i'd assume that the 2gb would also

Gigabyte GA-K8NS
Athlon64 3000+ Venice E6
Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu LED
X800XL 256MB AGP
1GB Corsair VS
120GB WD/160GB Maxtor
Aspire Chameleon 550W

Thanks for the link. The prices are better there than what I have found. I am looking into the SanDisk Cruzer Mini or the Micro 1GB.

Gonna read up

Thanks again

Hi, Read up on DirectCD/Drag to disc if using Roxio/Adaptic and INCD if Nero. Think XP is Roxio. Using CD/RWs is also a good way to do what you want. The RWs will be formatted by the Burner Program and can then be used exactly like a Floppy disk. Rs can also be used. RWs regain the space when deleted. Rs lose the files but also the space. Hope this helps a bit, Jim

The problem with Nero InCD and Roxio's Direct CD is that need software installed on any machine you which to use them on.

They use packet writing techniques which is not indigenous to Windows.

The inbuilt CD writer in Windows XP does not use packet writing, it uses ISO 9660. When you delete a file with that, the space remains used. The only way to recover the space is to format the whole disk.

Here's the 1GB model of my favorite line: Corsair Flash Voyager 1GB USB flash drive

It's very fast, durable, small, and it's an invaluable tool for any lint collectors out there. Comes with a USB extension cord and a useless blue lanyard.

"If it ain't broke, upgrade anyway."
