a friend of mine gave me her old laptop. however, when I try to boot it up, I get the following message:
PXE-E61: Media test failure. check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM
I tried resetting the BIOS, but that did not work. What else can I do?

It is looking to boot from a server, you need to change BIOS to hard drive as first boot device..
