I built a computer a few years ago, (almost 5) and it has been haveing the usual problems that i can fix. A few months ago the PSU went out, so i replaced it from one i got from stables, it was the cheapest in town and a brand name.

After i installed it (dunno how long, not long) my monitor of 1-2 years started to pop. When i say pop mean it would make a poping noice and then the screen would flicker like it was being turned off and then return to normal. Well the monitor still worked so i thought it would be ok. I noticed this happened when the air conditioner at my GF's would turn off/on, or it seemed like it did.

Well eventually my monitor pop/flickered and did not return to normal. i let it set a while and it still wouldn't turn back on. the light for the power would light, but no screen.

So i got a used monitor from someone and it worked fine, but was visibly old. i moved into a new appartment and after a while (dunno how long, again) the monitor started doing it again, i cannot tell if it is related to my power issues at my new place.

So i replaced the vid card thinking it might be causing it (and it was an excuse to upgrade) and it is still doing it. I realize that this problem might be just from the fact that the monitors are old (or older). however it is weird that both are doing it, it might be a coincent(sp), or it might be something else.

So my question is, could a power supply from a computer cause this to happen? Should i replace the power supply, as it didn't seem to happen before this one, yet i don't know how long i had this one before it started happening.

If a PSU cannot cause this, then i know i just need to buy another monitor new. Keep in mind that use my computer and play highly graphical demanding games A LOT. This might cause my monitors to go out quicker (or not). I turn my monitor off when i am not using it, hoping that will save it for longer. However, my monitor is doing it more frequently and i would like to save it if i could.

Anyone know if a PSU can cause this?

The monitor problem has absolutely no connection with the PC power supply.

I doubt the PSU has anything to do with it. The monitor has it's own internal power supply...the only connection to the PC is to the video card. Unless your monitor patches thru the PSU?

I do find this interesting:

"A few months ago the PSU went out, so i replaced it from one i got from stables, it was the cheapest in town and a brand name."

Why is it so difficult to list the brand name & wattage of the PSU? And what is "stables"?

Thanks for the reply ham30, that is what i was looking for. I guess my monitors just don't like me, looks like i will be in the market for a new Monitor now, thanks again.

And i might try to put them on a rated surge protector instead of a power strip, that might make a difference.
