Hi all,

This morning I woke up to an offline media center PC. I touched the top of the case and it was abnormally hot. I figured it overheated and got turned off by the hardware monitoring from the MoBo.

However its not turning back on now :(

All the pieces seems intact (no burnt mark) and it was mainly the PSU that was hot not the rest of the hardware.

I unplugged the PSU and plugged it back and there's power getting to the board (check led is on) and if I try to turn it on the fans spin up for like 0.25 sec.

Then nothing...if I unplug/plug again I get the same result.

It seems like any other fried PSU to me but it's the first time I encounter one that still manage to get the fans turning for a short time every time.

Any thoughts?

Replace it. A PSU has several different output rails and a failure in one may still leave it capable of running the fans. You will not know whether the rest of the system is still ok until you get a known good PSU

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.
