Hello!
About a month ago i upgraded my processor
from a AMD1600+ to a AMD2000+ and about
2 weeks ago the troubles begun, nothing else has been replaced after the processorchange.
i got 2 7200rpm drives, a GF4 card, a network card and a 48x cdrw.

well, i started to get lockups during cpu
intense tasks like 3dmark and normal gaming
the only thing i can do is surf and watch movies, sometimes not even watch movies.

also, if the computerhas ben on for like an hour or so its inpossible to make a reinstall of windows, it just hangs or gives a BSOD when you see the install/repair/exit screen after booting...
i had to let it cool down (or whatever) to
be able to reinstall...

Anyway, this is what i have found:
Using the Asus probe program for my motherboard i discowered that the +12v rail
has a 13.4v load... is this the reason?

If it is, how do i remedy it?

Have you updated your Nvidia Detonator drivers?(Geforce)

Check your temps in the BIOS.

13.4V is ok for the 12v source. it runs the drive spindles and under load will drop just below 12v (depending on the watt rating of the PS).

What about system temps? AMD's run hotter than pentiums.

another observation. WinXP registers a unique processor SN when it's validated by MS. Have you re-registered with Microsoft?

1) Please advise the rating (wattage) of your psu.

If insufficient it could be the cause of your problem.

2) the other possibility is overheating within the pc. Are all the fans clean and operating satisfactorily?

Good luck - keep us posted.

Heya, sorry that it took some time =)

lets see...

Jupp, got latest graphix drivers
tried with 41.09 too...

Bios temps:
MB - 33C
CPU - 63C

Ihave had problems with temp before BUT
when the cpu overheated the asus motherboard
simply shutdown the system, now when i get
some load it just hangs...

Registering? nope, havent registered at all.
and i got the problems after reinstalling
windowsxp only once.

Wattage? ok, its a 360w Chaintec
Load:
2 7200 80gb harddrives
1 geforce ti 4200
1 network-card
1 cd-rw

I have had this config for about a half
year now and haven't had any troubles before
the only thing i can think of that i changed
close to when tha crashes begun is the cpu
and that was 2 weeks before the first crash
like this... i might be wrong in assuming
thats it the psu... what do you think?

63c for the cpu is that idle? If so then you need to invest in a good AMD approved fan. That temp should be between 39- 54c. Did you use the old 1600xp fan? Need to get that processor temp down a little that could be the mostly likely be the cause. I am curious. How do you have 390mg of ddr? Since ddr comes in 128, 256, 512, 1gb? Have I missed something?

I agree with Dan, Definitely a CPU heat problem.

I see, wonder why i have such a high temp
the fan should be good for a AthlonXP2800+
thats kinda wierd right?

Heh, nah i have 384mb ram, i was just too
lazy to do the math so i just typed
something that i knew was almost right =)

Thanx for pointing out the temp guys!
