hi,

running a tri-monitor set-up and have recently experienced a few random BSOD attacks. most of the time things seem ok.

im running two monitors off an agp radeon 9200se and the third from a pci nvidia mx440. my cpu overclock seems more than stable and im not running many gpu intensive tasks imo so im curious whether my 500w psu cant handle the juice?
id be surprised but am not too sure.

ive also read that the new service pack is sposed to cover cases of random shut offs in vista, but ive only recently begun to notice the problem.

any help would be much appreciated,
berrd.

The monitors don't run off the PSU, so my guess is that's not the problem.

I'm curious as to what the tri-display is being used for? And why you're using old DX8 cards with Vista? And for that matter, why you're running Vista at all?

BTW, I looked for your post in the Digital Home forum but didn't find it.

When my PSU fails I usually don't get anything, not even a BSOD. And then I usually have to replace it. I'd say you're pretty lucky.

Seriously, the monitors don't run off the PSU. As for whether or not the video cards do, or don't, you'd know taht better than anyone on here can tell you I'm sure. If it's really your PSU failing you might need a "bigger" one.

jam.. course the monitors dont run off the psu mate. i meant whether the two video cards are usin too much power?

well i had a dual set-up for the space, then out of boredom and bein greedy i got the third monitor and second pci-gpu. if ur not a big gamer u should try it if u can. the extra space is a treat and theres no divided space in the center like u get on a dual monitor set-up.

as for vista.. i used most of the betas and release candidates as they came out, out of curiosity and then wound up with the final version due to my becoming used to it. for all its cons there are pros over xp that i liked so it stuck. but now the hassles are startin make me rage so im gonna put xp back on (finally), at least until a service pack comes out.

aww and the old cards are all i can afford and my post was regarding any software i could get my hands on or settings i could change to get .avi files to play spanned over a couple of monitors. i remeber there was a program a while back called matrix dvd player or something that did the job but i cant find it.
