I had a problem earlier whereby my machine kept cutting for some reason which i think was due to my CPU running at 80*C+ which it still does. Now my recent problems are is my PSU powerful enough, it says combined 165 watts and total 300 watts. My other problem is still my CPU running at 80*C+, i refitted the heatsink and fan which was supplied with my AMD athlon 2000+, i even took off the thermal pad and used the pasty stuff supplied by motherboard, but still no differnce if anything its worse. Any thoughts please?

Do you have any case fans installed for ventilation? You may need to install a couple to get the air moving so your heat sink/fan get some fresh, cool air. HTH

Well, bottom line is an Athlon 2000+ with a proper heatsink and fan that is properly installed in a case with proper ventilation runs at no more than 45 - 50 (maybe 52) C. So, you need to examine each of the elements. Not knowing where you got your CPU with cooler, I have to ask if it is areputable source that would match the CPU with a heatsink/fan combo that is rated for it? If things are "worse" after you used thermal paste, I suspect you may not have applied it properly (no more than a dab the size of a small grain of rice spread thinly & evenly over the cpu core). Is the heatsink properly seated on the CPU? Are your case fans properly located and large enough to adequately ventilate your case?

Oh dear, well i bought it from a good shop, maybe i did put to much paste on, but would it really make it go all the way to 80*C? My CPU came with heatsink and fan in a boxset from AMD, do you think there maybe be a fault with the processer?
