Comment: hi , guys this is probably a dumb question ,but after looking thru some of the posts and replys , i just want to be sure, a couple of weeks ago we had a power spike at our church which fried several monitors (AMPLIFIED) and two circuitboards on our furnaces , now our music computer is dead , i looked it over real good couldnt find anything out of ordinary untill i took apart the power supply, it has a soldered fuse in it thats fried, my question is 1- should i get another psu , or can i replace the fuse ? 2 - is there a chance that the mobo is shot also ? , im just fishing around to see what my options are ,thanx in advance ive learned alot from you guys in the last 5 years or so,

Reply: (edit)You can replace the fuse, just make sure it's the same 'type' and has the same amperage rating. Sorry, I do not check for private messages

Reply: (edit)I hope it's just the fuse. Please have the Church obtain some kind of Surge Suppressors not just for the computers but anything electronics. i_XpUser

Reply: (edit)first of all , thanx you guys for your replys , the computer and the yamaha amps , were all on surge protectors , (powertech heavy duty ), there now dead also ,the amps we had found out had fuses , but it somehow jumped past the fuses and hit the boards , we replaced the tiny fuses on the amps , and when we plugged them in , they finished frying (burnt hair smell !) thats why i was wondering if maybee its safer to just replace the psu ?

Reply: (edit)A surge suppressor can be installed at a reasonable cost in the Church's main circuit breaker box. It will protect the whole Church Sorry, I do not check for private messages

Reply: (edit)Hi, Fuses today are not to SAVE the DEVICE but, are required by law to prevent a fire. Try to replace the fuse, but the PSU may never work again. Who knows, you may be lucky. Good Luck, Jim

Reply: (edit)Some surge protectors include a warranty that provides "insurance" for devices that get fried as a result of power surges, etc. You may want to look into this, and contact the manufacturer ... if they are reputable, they may be willing to replace your damaged equipment.

Reply: (edit)I'm inclined to agree with the previous few posters..even if it would work by chance, its lifespan is probably gonna be seriously decreased..so it's probably better to just replace it right away and save yourself some time and aggravaation later ß Gigabyte GA-K8NS Athlon64 3000+ Venice E6 Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu LED X800XL 256MB AGP 1GB Corsair PC3200 VS 120GB WD/160GB Maxtor Aspire Chameleon 550W
