I have ordered this MB and it will be here Monday. I currently have this PSU.

This PSU only has a P4 MB connector and I am wondering now if I need a P8. Here is a pic of the board.

It shows that it is a P8 but half of it is covered. Do you only need the P8 if you are going to run Crossfire?

Thank you.

I have a couple of questions. 1st & foremost, why would you buy anything from TigerDirect? The board is $20 cheaper at newegg...the PSU is $30 cheaper.

Here's some better pics of the board:

It looks like some sort of plug adapter is included. What is a P8 plug & what makes you think you need one?

2nd, why did you buy such an expensive board? The X38 has very little advantage over the P35 & decent P35 boards (Gigabyte for example) can be had for less than 1/2 what you paid.

I got the board from Newegg I was just showing the link for a reference. My sig shows my current system and I am upgrading with the board, memory and cpu since my current board does not support the e8400.

I purchased the asus board because I trust the products. My rig as been good for 3 years now and it was time to move up.

I ended up buying the adapter. I may or may not need it but I will find out Monday when everything arrives.

If I ended up having to purchase a new psu I was just going to upgrade the case and HDD too.

Jam: Some newer motherboards come with an 8 pin ATX 12V connector instead of the usual 4 pin connector. I just purchased an Abit Intel P35 board with an 8 pin connector. The manual recommends using a PSU which has an 8 pin plug, though it's not required for the mobo I bought. The manual recommends using the 8 pin plug to meet the 240VA protection limits. I'm not sure what that means.
