Comment: My PS/2 mouse have been acting weird for sometime now. It keeps moving automatically to the left. Sometimes a jerk to the mouse fixes it. Other times I am left with no other option but to use the serial mouse. I do not think there is a problem with the mouse because it is a new one. Could it be that my PS/2 port is damaged? How do I fix that?

Reply: (edit)A PS/2 mouse shouldn't need any special drivers, although if a drivers disk came with it, it wouldn't hurt to use it. Is it an optical mouse or a standard mouse with ball? If it has a ball, remove the ball & look at the rollers inside...see if any crap has accumulated on them Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @8x210mhz 512mb PC3200 Ti4200/8X 128mb WDC 60GB

Reply: (edit)if it is optical then the surface that you are using might be shiny? or glossy causing that prob.

Reply: (edit)Thx for all the replies. It uses Windows Generic Driver. It is not an optical mouse but uses trackball. I have opened it and looked inside. Everything is fine. The icon moves up and down only. No sideway movement. Thx again.

Reply: (edit)When you look at the rollers, see if they are perfectly smooth or if there is a black strip around them. The black strip is dirt and dust, and it can be scraped off with tweezers or whatever. Also, try moving the rollers with your finger while the mouse is open, and see if the pointer moves onscreen.

Reply: (edit)Thx for the reply Birdman. There are no dirt on the rollers. And I did exactly what you told about opening the mouse and moving the rollers. And like I said. After moving both the rollers, the icon moves up and down only. Not sideways.

Reply: (edit)If you move the roller by hand and it doesn't move left or right then the sideways roller is broken.. Is it a new mouse? In which case take it back to the shop and get it replaced.. If not... Then check to see if the roller is sitting on it holders.. THese are catch's to the top and bottom of the rolloer. Check to see it sits in the bits correctly.. If still nothing, then open up the mouse,, usually two small screws... then you should see two discs with straight hole from the centre to the outside, these are just behind the roller. check to see if these turn as you move the roller. If it does turn... then is the circuit within the mouse wiring.. in which case I would buy another one, since to fix it is too much hassle.. Hope this helps Katana
