My P/S 2 Optical Mouse (Genius) started giving me problems where it would freeze for a while and then respond again, but was also driving the board crazy as the board would emit a beep everytime the problem occurred. I fixed my installation of XP and still had the problem, so I switched to a USB Optical (Microsoft Basic) but to a usb extension, but the mouse would dive to the top left of the screenevery 10 min or so. After reading posts here, I discovered it was a power problem and connected directly to the PC. Seems the problem is solved there. But what is wrong with my P/S 2 mouse - would it be a port or mouse problem. I have checked the drivers and they are fine.

It could be either port or mouse. Have you got a working p/s 2 mouse? If so i would connect a working p/s 2 mouse and see if you get the same problem. If the problem still happens then it probably is a port problem, you might want to check the bios settings maybe using default settings and check to see if theres an update for your bios. If none of these suggestions help then you can always stick with the usb mouse maybe get a wireless one, there getting pretty cheap these days.
