The lightning we had on Tuesday (11/04) took out my monitor (I wish I had had a surge protector!). Anyway, my question is although there was a bright flash and the screen went blank, the power light is still on, can I still rescue my monitor or is it too late? If nothing else, does anyone know how to get rid of a monitor in Peoria Heights, IL (with all the lead and phosphor inside)? Anyone want to buy it? thanks ahead for your response.

Are you sure it's the monitor that was fried? You might not get a display if the computer is broke.

True, it's possible that it's not a bad monitor at all...possibly your CPU, video card, or something else inside your PC got fried...maybe all of the above? Have you tried another monitor?

The CPU, I think, is working because I tried powering it up the next morning and I could see the power light and the orange "I am busy" light come on and because it was an improper shut down, it was probably checking the disc for errors. Does the Proview monitor have a "secret" reset button or something?
