Comment:

I would like to upgrade the Xeon 5150 processors in my server and am looking to know all available options to me. I'd prefer to switch to Quad Core processors but don't know which are compatible.

I'm aware there's an easy upgrade to the 5160 processor but wonder if there is another dual core processor line that would also work. Having a hard time finding the information. Appreciate the help.

The specs tell you what processors are compatible.

The problem with Dell's site, so much as I have tried, is that searches for the PE 2950 return results for the PE2950 III. Mine is a first generation 2950. Thanks anyway for the link.

Hell, Dell even offers an online scanner through their replacement parts division that also makes suggestions for the PE2950 III. Does me no good.

What's got me stumped is that they suggested a 54xx series Quad Core processor that has a 2x6MB L2 cache. The 5150 is a 1333mhz FSB, 2x4MB L2 cache. This should mean that the 5300 series of quad core processors is a good fit but, hell if the 5400 series will work, why not & what else is there. Trying to get as much processor into this server as I can.
