Hi, I have a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 motherboard and I want to upgrade my processor from 1.8 ghz to at least 3 ghz. Now, I'm confused as to what a 3 ghz p4 is and what a 3E processor is and what the pentium 4 extreme edition is? Is the 3E processor the pentium 4 extreme edition? I also will upgrade my psu to a 470 w before upgrading. I googled for some info and found some people who had problems with overheating with the higher clocked p4s. If it overheats, do I just need to get better cpu fans? Thanks.

What is the purpose of this upgrade? What can't you do now, that you think you'll be able to do with a 3GHz CPU?

I want to set my computer up for a geforce 6600gt and I know I must upgrade to a better processor to reduce the bottlenecks.
