Not sure but from a little googling it seems the motherboard supports Socket A processors at either 200/266 FSB whereas the 2600+ processor seems to be 166/333.

Those numbers don't look compatible to me but I cannot say for certain. I've never owned an AMD

this web page:

suggests to me it does not suit that CPU as it mentions PC100 & PC133 ram BUT that is if you have a 333FSB athlon 2600xp. There is also a 266FSB version of athlon 2600xp which is rarer.
If you do have the 266fsb version then you should be fine, but as I say, you may not have that version.
I am not sure how apparent it is from the cPU which one you have.
I know those CPUs do have a code on them, you could try typing that code into google.

I know this isn't responding to the question you posed but unless I misunderstand, you may be considering the purchase of at least a processor in order to build this system around that obsolete MBoard. IMO that would be a disservice to whoever you are bulking for. If I am mistaken and you are assembling a system from odds and ends then I apologise. If you would like help with this venture then post back with the complete list of all the items you have and what you intend to buy.

The revision is usually marked on the corner below the PCI slot, or sometimes following the model number written on the board.

Do you already have all the hardware listed except for the processor? Thunderbirds ran really hot. The finished system isn't worth spending alot on. If you need to buy processor and RAM I would suggest not doing it.

You should be able to install most any 200 or 266 FSB duron or athlon processor. I don't know the multiplier settings on the MB. That would be the limitation. Download the manual and see what it says about multipliers. If set by jumper or BIOS and what multipliers are available.
Find the manual download here: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Downloads/ProductsDetail_Download.aspx?DetailID=229&DetailName=Manual&DetailDesc=K7SEM(1.0)&MenuID=45&LanID=8

Again, I say, you are spending too much cash on this system. To buy two Processors for an obsolete system is crazy. Sell the Ram and MB on Ebay and get something newer. When processors get a certain age the price quits falling and many times goes up.

ok i guess ur right but i like to build a system to beat my pentium 2 system:( i now it's really sad im running a pentium 2 still, but im 14 and i need a better comp so i have a hdd a mb and ram all i need is a processor but someone told me that award is made by phoenix technologioes so i can update this bios?? i think if i SUCXESSFULLY update the bios it will accept my athlon 2100+ but the ecs site states that my mobo will accept an athlong 2100
so do i really need to updatre the bios???

I am not trying to put down your system but I am saying you need to look at how much cash you're spending and what you'll have when done. There are bargains out there. How much cash do you think you would spend to but the two processors you talked about using?

ok i understand what ur saying and so far ive put 0$ on it and all i need is an athlon or athlon xp processor but for around 20-40$ it's worth it i think and all i need is to know if flashing my bios is really appropriate because i have had a few instances where ive killed motherboards by flashing the bios
thx again and thx for helping me so far

Thx in advance!!!

I would borrow a processor from one of your friends to use to flash the BIOS and then look at the settings to determine what 266 FSB processor that BIOS will support. If you killed MBs flashing the BIOS you are doing something wrong. If performed correctly by a well prepared person with reliable power to the computer there should be no problems flashing. You weren't sure of the MB version. This is critical to a good flash. You MUST have the correct flash file and the correct flash program for the file you are using. I recommend only flashing from a floppy disk. If you are going to try this here is how I recommend proceeding. As I said, borrow a processor that you are sure will run in that MB. Get the system up and running with Windows installed. Download Everest home Edition and use it to determine the version and model of the MBoard. Then download the correct flash file and program. Follow the instructions on how to setup the floppy. After the sucessful BIOS flash you MUST immediately enter the BIOS and set all setting to default plus reset time and date. After all that, you should be able to determine what Processor to buy and return the borrowed one. I have a 1.1 duron myself that I have used like that in the past. If you can't find anyone to borrow a processor from then buy the cleapest you can find for flashing. Any 200FSB or 266FSB AMD processor will probably boot up in that MB. Even if the BIOS doesn't support it. I hate to tell you this will work for sure though. I have seen this happen before when folks bought a MB with an older BIOS date and installed a fast processor. Of course, sometimes the system won't boot. Are are sure this MBoard you have is good?

On ebay in the UK you can get a whole rig, Atlhon 1000, 128 Mem , MoBo for around £50, totally overpriced for an unknown quantity considering for the same money you can buy this which is brand new:

http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=MBK-PVCLE266

http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=MER-128-26

or

Unfortunately older hardware prices remain artificially high becuase people are not prepared to find out cheaper alternatives, and spend time and money trying to save money.

I totally agree with OtheHill that after 30 posts you are still no further forward.
