processor motherboard compatibility?

Gigabyte / Ga-g31ms2c

Specs: Windows XP SP2
I bought this motherboard around 9 months
ago. In addition, I ONLY bought the
motherboard without any other parts. Yes, I
make my computer myself, using some parts I
found and bought... So I inserted the Intel
Pentium 4 631 3.06 Ghz, and I found many
programs doesn't work as fast and swift as
before. Even I can't use Vista on it! Oh, and
whenever I play games, they lags a lot. I tried
the same game (Titan Quest) with a computer
with lower specs as mine, and works fine.

Additional info :
VGA Gigabyte GeForce 7300 GS 128 MB

Someone told me the processor doesn't
compatible with the motherboard. Things I'd
like to know are :

1. is it true?
2. if so, what processor series are compatible
with it? (Google doesn't help me Dx)

Thanks for any answer, I will appreciate every
bits of them.

All you needed to do was go to the Gigabyte website & look it up. Yes, your CPU is supported. However, if you didn't install the heatsink properly, the CPU *may* be running hot & as a result, throttling down.

And here's your motherboard specs:

Are you saying that you built this system 9 months ago & it just started to give you problems recently? Or did you just put it together recently?

Looking at the table, it's compatible. This is good! And I
noticed it's weirdness few weeks after I finished making it. I
thought it was temporary problem. I sought the problem little
by little, until I finally realized there's A compatibility problem.
A month ago, I sought few computer manufacturers and they
didn't help me at all, so I posted it here.

Thanks! But... what should I do to make my computer faster
again? Should I buy a new, higher processor? That older
motherboard is now broken flat.
