CPU/Ram: Athlon XP1700 /768 DDR

My friend has an athlon xp 1700 thoroughbred cpu for sale for cheap, I have a soyo K7 Dragon Motherboard. Will these work together??

I believe the board takes up to TBred 2100+. You need to update to the latest BIOS though.

How much he wants for it is the question. If it's cheap enough, try it in your old board and if it doesn't work, you can always get another MB.

They come new for $42 from newegg and those are tbred cores. See if your friend will tell you the product numbers on the chip itself since 1700s vary in value according to vintage.

Yes, 2100+ is probably max. But that doesn't mean it will run the 1700+ regardlessly. It's a thoroughbred, and many motherboard that run 2100+ MAX. only run Palomino-cpu's (and everything less of course).
Check the soyo-website for CPU-support on your motherboard.
