to start you are using 256 ram, while xp will run with this ok, most game will not show good performance no matter what vid card you have. also keep in mind that those tests for fps were done on a machine that had plenty of ram to spare (over 512) and you machine is not up to par with that. my suggestion would be to upgrade more ram to 512 as that is the 'sweet spot' for xp, go to newegg.com for some good prices or you might find some rebate prices at tigerdirect.com, but try to get the same brand you have now, you will see an increase in gaming with that extra 256 ram, hope this helps

I have had the same experience and agree with "tony" running ut2k3 on my athlon xp 1600, 256mb of ddr ram and a radeon 9000, I noticed an extremely jumpy framerate that was inconsistent, sometimes as low as 15, sometimes 50, but never sustained at anything. I run windows 2000, and I tested the ram usage of ut2k3 one day and found that I was using about 300mb total (including windows itself). 512 will definatley put you up with room to spare, (faster loading times) but 384 should keep you in the clear for a good framerate (384 on my system put my performance to a steady 30 fps) and when I got 512 it leveld off at 35. I'm assuming that you have all detail settings turned up, and also note that there are often settings in the advanced display panel for directx and opengl settings which also affect your games. While these settings are often only the maximum allowed to games, they can sometimes extremely affect your performance. mess with the settings and get at least another 128 mb of ram and you should find just what you're looking for.
