I have started to get problems with some games that used to work fine.

I not a gamer and i don't play games often and i don't have any recent games, since my PC is not that powerful.

Yesterday i dediced to try my 'Ford Racing 3' game, but when it was loading the main menu, it crashed. Always crash there. I looked from the event viewer and there was this message: unknown software exception (0x80000003)... 0x7c901230. I reinstalled the game, didn't help and installed different drivers, but no joy.

Also have problems with HL2. When i quit the game i get "memory could not be read" error.

I think both of those problems are not driver related, since i have tried different drivers. I think there's something wrong with my system. Can it be a bad memory stick? I have one 512mb and one 1gig stick.

I have R9550, X-Fi music and XP SP2.

Have you ever tested your RAM with a memory diagnostic program such as memtest86, memtest86+ or Windows Memory Diagnostic?

Just tried few things, but no joy. First i tried with my Sygate FW disabled and then i restored some changed BIOS settings, but like i said, no joy.

Edit: jam, no i have not. But i read that they will take a lot of time to scan.

Some people like to run memtest for several hours or even overnite as more of a stress test to try to "force" an error. If it survives an overnite test, you can be reasonably assured that the RAM is 100% error free.

Running a single test series is generally sufficient though...that usually takes about 30 min. It's best to test one stick at a time, then paired up. If any errors are found, make sure the contacts are clean & that the RAM is fully seated in it's slot, then try running memtest again. If errors are found again, it's likely that the RAM is defective.

Can it be a DirectX problem. I have updated my 9.0C a couple of times. Should i just reinstall the "original version", if it's possible?

Strangely enough, Ford Racing 3 will work, if i disable sound with the game config file. So FR3 does not seem to like my new X-FI card or the drivers.

Ok, So there's a problem with X-FI cards. This is from the game site:

"Issue regarding Sound Buffer Error or game freezes when I run the game with an XFI Soundcard

Ford Racing 2 and Ford Racing 3 were developed and tested before Creative Labs marketed the XFI Soundcard. The game has been tested with the XFI Soundcard since its release and we have found that there is a compatibility issue regarding the card and the game producing a Sound Buffer error when you start the game selection or collide with another car. We have found a workaround for this issue by turning the Sound Acceleration to None within the DirectX Sound Option resolves this problem and allows the game to be played.
There will not be any patch update to correct this issue."
