Subject: Problems with SE7505VB2 motherboard
OS: Win XP SP2
CPU/Ram: Dual Xeon 1gig ram

I was trying to install a 2nd gig of ram to my computer. When I put in the dimms, they were not being read. They were two of the same, so they should have worked together. I then put each dimm in the computer by itself to make sure it wasn't faulty. Each one was fine. And when I put two in banks 1 & 2 the computer would show a gig. But when I put two more in banks 3 & 4, they didn't come up. Intel suggested flashing the bios to update. Well, the new problem was the floppy drive wasn't reading disks. It kept telling me to insert a disk when there was one already inserted. I tried a new floppy drive, but that didn't help. It was suggested that the motherboard could've been bad. Well, I got a new SE7505VB2 and put everything back in it, and guess what? The same problems. The computer doesn't recognize the extra ram, and the floppy drive doesn't recogniz the disk. What the heck could be the problem?

Most likely the floppy drive/drives are bad. Or you haven't installed the drivers from the Motherboard Disk. You might also have a bad floppy drive cable. It doesn't have to look bad to be bad. As for the Memory, are all 4 sticks the same brand? Not all memory works together. In fact I haven't found any that work together in these new motherboards unless all sticks are the same brand.

Was the floppy drive set up in the Bios?

I had tried a different floppy cable with the same results. I don't know what else to set up in the Bios with the floppy. I see it listed, but I don't see anywhere else where I can make changes. For the memory, each two stick group are the same, but not all four since I bought them more than a year apart. They're all PC 2100. When I go to hardware manager, I don't have any Exclamation points next to anything. I can't even flash the bios with the update Intel sent. I've been unable to make a bootable CD that will let me run the flash program. Somehow, memory programs are still running, and the flash program won't work with those.

What is wrong with your CD-Burner?Memory programs are still running! What does that mean?
Are you setting the ram up as normal ram? What does the BIOS say about the Ram setup? If it is Dual Channel then the memory might need to be setup differently. Read your motherboard book and see how to setup your memory.

I don't see anywhere in the BIOS to change anything about Ram setup. According to my BIOS, it can only see DIMMS in banks 1A & 2A, even though there are DIMMS in all four banks.

The problem with booting from a boot cd is when I run the flash program for updating the bios, I get a warning saying the program won't launch while memory programs are running. I've tried different things and nothing works. The floppy drive doesn't work, even though it's new, and I've tried a different cable (it didn't work with the previous drive either).

Well, I brought the computer to a PC place to see if they could figure it out. They say the floppy drive is bad, which I find hard to believe since it was new, but I'll try another one. They have the same problem with the DIMM slots that I do, and say one of the slots is bad, but it's difficult to believe that identical motherboards bought over a year apart from different sources, can have the identical problem. They tried flashing the bios, and had the same problem I do, where the program says there is some memory program running, even when there's not. I doubt they'll figure it out, so I'll probably have to send the board to Intel.
