I was running a rebuilt system whenever my computer started to act strange. I changed my hard drive over to the gateway computer. The hard drive is a 19 gb.
It worked fine for about thirty minutes and then when I tried to download a program, the system locked down.
Then when I rebooted it asked me to reinstall windows98.
I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled the program. It works fine, except for one problem.
My 19 Gig Harddrive is only reading as a 2 Gig.
I know the hard drive is good because it was in my old system and it read it as a 19 gig. When I installed it into the Gateway, it read as a 19 gig, until the reinstall.
Could someone please help me out and suggest what settings I could change to make the harddrive read as it's full amount? I know it isn't the motherboard on the Dell because it read the old harddrive as four gig, exactly what it was.
Some computer savvy people have told me it could be the BIOS settings but I don't want to go in and change something that will crash my system again.

Did you use Fdisk to delete and/ or create partitions? If so, did you choose Y for large disks? You may have a FAT16 partition. Use Fdisk again and choose option #4 to see what partitions you have and what type.
What are the specs on the old Gateway?

Yeah if you formatted the partition as FAT16 the upperlimit in size is 2 gb.You need to format the partition as FAT32.
