I have a machine that I use for recording TV programs using ATI radeon 7500 AIW. This system was up and running for months on win2000pro. The capacitors on the MB crapped out. Installed a MB out of a system that was running fine at the time (upgraded that MB). Before the MB completely died it gave me some problems with lockups. I thought it might have been a heat related problem but it turned out to be exploded caps. Anyway I tried a simple switch out the MB and boot. This didn't work and resulted in hard lockups. After many tries I decided to just reformat the primary HD and install. When win2000 gets to installing the hardware it locks every time. Tried bebooting and letting the install continue but continued to lockup. Deleted the partition, created new partition and tried again. Four tries later I gave up on 2000 and installed Win98SE. This install went without incident. After verifying a good OS I attempted to install win2000 as a second OS on another HD in the system. This gave me the same results as before. Deleted the partition and recreated and tried winXP with the sam results. What the H is going on here. Ran a thourough scan on these disks. Came back with no errors. Ran the win2000 hardware compatibility program. It came back saying I needed the drivers for the onboard NIC and ATI card. The video was configured to Std. VGA so I figured I could change the display after install. I thought maybe win2000 didn't like the AIW. That is why I tried winXP. XP is newer than the card, shouldn't have issues with it. Only other hardware in the box is a soundblaster 5.1 live card.
