when I click on safely remove Hardware, I get the message ,"Problem Ejecting USB Mass storage device. The device 'Generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. try stopping the device again later."

what can this problem be ? it only happens on
one particular PC. I have checked the pc for
viruses ,but they are all gone. I also checked proccesses running and I can not see
anything that might be causing it.
Is there any program you can get that will find out what ,including hidden proccesses are running ?

See if you can expand the line saying USB mass storage device. May then show the actual drive and you will be able to complete the removal. If that doesn't work simply immediately try again the way you are doing and I think it will then work. I sometimes have that same issue with my 320GB external drive.

You have two choices:

Remedy Number 1 (EverythingUSB method): Go ahead & unplug if you don't care what's writing to it (most likely your AV).

Remedy Number 2 (MSKB Community Solutions method): Get third-party Process Explorer and try to isolate the culprit on your own.

In addition to what OtheHill said, you need to close the explorer window before you try to remove the device.
