I purchased a replacement battery for my HP DV6000 Laptop but it only charges to about 50%

The battery is NOT fully charged when you get it new.
Did you give it a chance to charge up fully initially ?

The quickest way is to install the battery, plug in the AC adapter, and DO NOT use the laptop until the battery charging led goes out.

If that doesn't help you may have a problem with the AC adapter's connection, or with the jack the AC adapter plugs into's connection.

Laptop no video (or video problems), and battery, AC adapter, power jack T shooting.

Charge for 24 hours while laptop is not in use. If fails then return.
