Problem with new pci sata card/sata drive?

Specs: Windows xp sp2
hi, I generally use a brand new HP laptop with vista, however I wanted to do some work getting a new WD 160GB SATA drive up and running. I have an older tower that was my girlfriends. It is a P4 Dell dimension 2400. I installed a PPA 1356 3 port PCI SATA card into the machine. When I restart the machine, the bios has no SATA options, but the WD HDD comes up in the disk options. however WIN XP wont boot if the drive is connected. If i unplug, boot into XP, plug in the drive. Device manager sees it, and it just says "disk drive" If i boot into dos, it can not see the drive, just the maxtor IDE drive, ANY HELP PLEASE???? Thanks

Did the sata card come with a driver disk? If so, did you install the drivers? Has the drive been formatted?
