Subject: Problem with new PC
OS: Xp SP2
CPU/Ram: AMD X2 3800+/1GB ddr533
Model/Manufacturer: AMD
Comment:

I've recently updated PC.I've replaced my motherboard, processor, ram.
Configuration:
AMD Athlon X2 3800+[Processor]
MSI K9AGM2[Motherboard]
Umax 1GB-DDR2 533mhz

But i've problems with my RAM.Its speed is 533mhz but when I use everest, cpuz,Pc wizard[system information softwares]all these softwares show my RAM speed at 266mhz.I've asked my vendor he said if it is written on the RAM stick 533 then it is 533mhz.And on my RAM stick it is written UMAX DDR-2 533.
Also my restart itself suddenly and it shows the message "your system has recovered from a serious error".
What is the problem I cant understand is this the problem of OS or hardware. And plz tell me a software to check the exact RAM speed.
This is everest and other softwares result.

Your memory is DDR2 @533. There isn't any DDR2 266. The confusion is due to the way in which DDR memory works. DDR stands for Double Data Rate. It is named that way because it can process data twice during the same cycle. DDR2 can process twice the data per cycle as DDR1, although at a higher latency. This means that DDR1 memory rated at 266 is actually running at a memory clock speed of 133(266/2). DDR2 running at 533 is actually running at a memory clock speed of 133 (533/4). This confusion is the reason why there is also a second number assigned to the RAM. DDR2 is also called PC2-4200. Look at the links below for a more detailed explanation.

That explanation isn't quite correct.

Simply put, all DDR-SDRAM is clocked at 1/2 it's rating. It doesn't matter if it's DDR1 or DDR2. DDR266 runs at 133MHz, DDR333 runs at 166MHz, DDR400 runs at 200MHz, DDR2-553 runs at 266MHz, DDR2-667 runs at 333MHz, & DDR2-800 runs at 400MHz.

If the RAM is rated by bandwidth (such as PC3200 or PC2-6400), simply divide by 16 to get the actual clock speed.

PC3200 / 16 = 200MHz

PC2-6400 / 16 = 400MHz
