Hi. Got myself a little problem and would appreciate some input on it.
I have an older computer that does not have any OS installed on it. It is a 166MHz with 64MB Memory and a +4 GB Hard drive. I would like to install Smoothwall on it (http://www.smoothwall.org). However, before I install it, I need the IRQ address and the I/O range of my two NIC cards (an IBM 100/10 ISA Ethernet Card and a Cnet 10/100 PCI Ethernet Card). I was planning on installing Windows 98SE on the computer to get this information but ran into a problem. Before I go any farther, does anyone know an easier way of obtaining this information on the cards?
Ok. Now for the rest of the story. :)
I create a bootable floppy, insert it into the A drive and turn on the computer. After the BIOS detects the memory, hard drive and cd-rom drive, the computer begins to read the floppy disk but then just stops. I know this is this an older computer but I have left the thing on over night and it still doesn't do anything. I think it freezes. Now, here is the strange part. The only time it will boot from the floppy correctly is when either the hard drive or cd-rom drive is disconnected or when I use the hard drive's format disk. (It’s a Maxtor drive and I use the MaxBlast utility). I have made several boot disks but none work. Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong? I think it is because I need EZ-BIOS or Dynamic Drive Overlay installed but have no idea how to install either one of these programs with the newest version of MaxBlast. Thanks for any help/advice give. Have a GREAT day!!!
