Comment: Hi everybody, I have a problem with my laptop. the company is Fujitsu siemens and my hard drive is manufactured by seagate. I switched off my laptop yesterday on hibernated mode. I open it up today to see a black screen with a message saying "operating system not found". I tried to install window XP home edition again. You know it prompts you to 3 options (install , recover or repair, and quit installing). I chose the 1st option, it gave me a message saying "no hard disk drive installed on your computer and that the installation can't be proceed" I got the same message in the 2nd option as well. It's really strange what happened because I didn't do anything wrong with the laptop and it's scared me of losing all my data on the hard disk drive. I have so important files over there . :( any help is really appreciated! frontliner

Reply: (edit)On the face of it it looks like your hard disk has died the death. The first thing to do if you have access to another computer is to go to the Seagate web site and down load their SeaTools utility. This will check the disk and probably confirm that it is dead. If the disk has died then you will need some serious data recovery software. See Orange icon on the top right of this page. Stuart

Reply: (edit) Have you tried to reset the PC? If you have a pin hole reset I would try that first. Most HP's have a reset which you place a straightened paper clip into. Yours should have something similar. <===Lefty===
