I have a laptop issue that stumped my computer guy at work.
Last week my laptop developed an issue where it plays CDs and DVDs with a delay and a sort of "skipping" that makes them sound like they're under water. It does this on Windows Media Player as well as on Itunes. The media player can burn and rip songs off of disks even though it cannot play them properly. I tried replacing the drive, but the new drive does the same thing. Does anyone have any advice? The laptop is a couple years old and is not yet ready for replacement.
Thank you in advance.

What was done to the laptop immediately preceding this problem?
Life's more painless for the brainless.

Nothing that I can think of. I download songs from ITunes. No new programs or anything. I have Mcafee Virus software running and found no viruses or spyware.

If this only started last week, why not try a system restore to see if that works?
You obviously downloaded new audio drivers already?I refer many downloads to the majorgeeks site because they are usually more up-dated than other sites.
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results as it will help others.

If you want you can use Everest Home http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4...
for help in locating your drivers.
Mind you...I have been told in the past that because it came out in 2005 some driver links are out-dated, if that's the case, you will still see which driver you need and can do a google search for them. Good LuckPS: Everest Home has some other real good features too.

Downloaded new audio driver and it didn't help. Can it be a Codec issue (because DVD video and CD audio are affected)?

it wouldn't hurt to up-date the codecs also

Well, Restore did it. I don't know how, or what caused the problem, but it worked. Thank you everyone for your help. This was driving me crazy.

LOL....it's funny, I thought you tried that already when I mentioned that in Response 3, that's why I made my other replies.
Anyways...thanks for posting back as it may help others that encounter your same problem.

I don't know why I hesitated to Restore. I wanted to understand the problem, I guess. Next time I'll Restore sooner than later. Thanks again.
