You didn't supply nearly enough info about your system or what's happening. And please do not call your computer a CPU. The CPU is the processor.

"the display in the desktop"

Clear as mud.
That can be about either a display on a built in display on (or more likely external display for ) a desktop computer, or a display of the desktop Windows screen on any computer.

Is it a laptop or netbook computer, or a desktop computer ?

What make and model is it if it's a brand name computer, or what make and model is the mboard if it's a generic desktop computer ?

If it is a desktop computer.....

Is the monitor external - have an external video cable plugged into a port on the computer,
or is it internal - one of the few desktop computers that has the monitor - display - built into the computer ?

Are the leds on the computer case for power and hard drive activity lighting up when you try to boot (start up) the computer ?
If yes, is the hard drive activity led blinking while booting ?

Can you hear the fan(s) and the hard drive(s) spinning while booting ?

Do you hear the normal one beep most computers normally make while booting when there's nothing wrong (when the POST is successful),
or do you hear a different pattern of beeps,
or no beeps at all ?
