CPU/Ram: 25MHz/4MB

I have a old compaq prolinea 4/25s and am having problems installing a panasonic 24X CR-585-B CD-ROM Drive.I have downloaded the drivers for this model,but when i try to install them,the install program REMs lines in the autoexec.bat and config.sys.windows 3.1 doesnt recognize the new drive as no icon appears.jumper on cd-rom set to slave,when set to cable select computer freezes.also more than 1 driver line appears in config.sys after installation of downloaded drivers which is a problem?help greatly appreciated!

Sorry about that phantazm, I just realized we are in the General hardware forum. You would still do better in the win3.1 or dos forums.

HEy sorry for posting here>but i solved the problem.the loading of > 1 driver line was the issue so i REMed the device = line lacking the driver in the config.sys and presto,the CD-Rom icon appeared in the file manager.

sys.ini required for windows missing & no luck finding backup in dirsystem.*.dont have win3.1 installation disks!DOS working fine.need to restore sys.ini file to run windows?
