I can't get my mic to work, even though I've checked everything (checked sound volumes, set recording device to microphone, etc).
What other possiblilities are there that prevent it from functioning?
ps: The mic itself works fine, as I've tested it on another machine...

do you have any other sound editing programs on your PC? The reason I ask is because I use Goldwave and if I have it set to line in, it doesn't matter what setting the mic is on with other programs it won't work.
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I use Audacity, and I do select the Microphone from its Input list. This is sort of weird, huh.

I'm sure this is what you meant in your post, try double clicking on your sound icon and see if the mic is muted in there.
Have you ever had a mic working on this PC?
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Here's a couple of screenshots showing the program I use the most (Audacity) on screenshot 1, and my sound settings for recording (below) and playback (above) on the second one.
I'll look for other programs that could be interfering, but other than that, I'm clueless.

Umm, Maybe i'm crazy but the microphone is set to mute! Uncheck the box and try again. Hopefully it's this simple and you can record to your hearts content. Good luck.
