I have Canon ip1700, which i bought January 2007. Just lately (last few times), i have had some problems with printing. I don't print that often, only few documents every month. The problem is, that sometimes printing process freezes. It can print 1 or 2 documents just fine, but after that, it can freeze. It freezes when the 'printing preview' window is suppose to open. There's a small window on the screen, that says something like "opening...". There's also a 'Cancel' button, but it won't work. That small window on the screen won't go away, even though i close all the printing processes. It will go away, when i close the browser. I use Opera. Can that printing problem be browser related? Or can my printer drivers/spool service be somehow corrupted?

EDIT: I changed the spool folder from my system32 directory to another sata drive. Let see if that makes any difference.

Simplist solution may be to remove the printer from the list and reboot, letting Windows install again.

Btw, is it normal that printer spool job files (SDH & SPL) are not automatically deleted after stopping/canceling printing or stopping/starting the spooler service? I noticed that they are not deleted, but they are set to 0byte file size.

Edit: Those files are deleted when i open my Canon settings.

"I don't print that often, only few documents every month."

You should print something using all the ink colors at least once a week, otherwise it's likely dried ink will clog some of the print head's jets.
You may not notice any white lines indicating clogged jets in the printout if you print just text - it tends to show up in graphics first.
....

Printers require more current and a more reliable USB connection that other USB devices do.

You may need to plug the printer into a different USB port, or you may have an IRQ sharing problem.

......

You should not need to fiddle with any spooler settings.

When the printing process freezes, make sure there are no out of the ordinary patterns of the way leds are lit up on the printer - if there are look up what causes that.
Sometimes all it is, is the paper needs to be repositioned a bit.
You may need to press a button to Resume printing after correcting the problem. If nothing else is wrong, the print job should then print automatically without you having to click on the Print button again.

If the printer fails to print, you must click on the printer icon in your task bar, choose Open Active Printers and Faxes, choose File - Properties, and Cancel all documents, otherwise further printing attempts will not work.
