I am buying a new HP Desktop and want to replace my old HP Printer, a DeskJet 970 Cxi. I have been more than pleased with this printer, but it is wearing out. I have heard that HP's printers have gone down in quality. My wife's printer is a Canon, but the ink is constantly drying out requiring cleaning. With this in mind, what printer would you recommend for both text and pictures at less than $500?

I know you won't do this but I am thinking about getting a dot matrix again. I'm tired of the hassle and costs with laser and inkjet printing.
