Id just like to call to peoples attention that I recently had a problem with Zone alarm firewall( free version ).
I kept getting unable to communicate messages with my printer and nothing would print. After about a week or two of trying to get my problem fixed via help from the net I sent my computer in to get fixed and they found out that it was my zonealarm firewall that was causing the problems. I dont know the exact reason but all that I do know is that now zone alarm has been uninstalled , my computer is printing again. (I do have sygate firewall).
I just thought that this may help anyone that comes across a similar problem to the one I had

zonealarm is a good firewall but you cant just install and walk away. I did that when I first installed it and it blocked my internet. you have to give each individual program access or non-access or they will normally be automatically blocked

Summary: I'd first try just going to Control Panel and then Add/Remove Programs and uninstall everything related to the printer, then reinstall from the disk again and see if it's better. If you haven't tried...
