I attempted to install my mum's printer earlier today after realising that I hadn't. Installation runs normally until I get to the screen where the Epson install wizard prompts me to turn on the printer and it will be automatically detected. I turn it on, printer does all its mechanical stuff and nothing happens. The printer wasn't detected. It is plugged in securely. So why can't I finish the installation? Why is it not detected? It's an Epson Stylus C62 Series.
Thanks in advance.

There's a troubleshooting guide here:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/...
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

The guide says that the printer should be detected automatically, and whe nit is, that I should click Install from CD or something like that.
The printer simply isn't detected at any time. Not at startup, not when it's switched on, not when drivers are installed, not when a test page is sent. It simply doesn't work.

Assuming it's connected via USB, check Device Manager to ensure there's no problem there

Check in Device Manager to ensure the Parallel port is properly installed. If not, you may need to enable the parallel port in the BIOS.

Make sure the the parallel port mode in the bios is set to EPP, EPP/ECP, or ECP - usually EPP is fine. More recent (since about 2000)parallel port connected printers will not work properly unless you do that.

Have you tried using a another known good interface cable?
Alternatively try installing the printer and cable on another pc to see what happens.
Good Luck - Keep us posted.

I have tried another cable, same problem, but haven't tried the printer on another computer because I don't have the space to do so.
@ Tubesandwires:
The only feature I can find in the BIOs which refers to the parallel port is "Parallel Port Address" and is currently disabled. It's options include: Disabled, 378, 278 and 3BC.Should I change this?

Aha! - that's why your printer is not seen.
That has to be enabled - 378 would be fine -whether you use 378, 278, or 3BC it is very rare for anything else to use any of those I/O addresses.
Once that is enabled, you should see something appear near that about the mode - EPP, EPP/ECP, ECP, etc. - try EPP.

Sorted! Thank you so much!
And my mum extends her thanks too. :D She is so pleased with it now!
