I recently did some work to my computer as far as Anti-Virus and registry error fixing. (note:I didnt do anything to the printer drivers or software, that i know of). Now when I try to use my printer it doesn't work. I tried all the usual i.e.: turning it off and back on, trying to re-install driver. When I unplugged the USB cord and put it back in, the computer recognizes it and tries to re-install it but it says "data error (cyclic redundancy check)". Someone please help. Any info would be appreciated!!
Are you reinstalling drivers from the existing disk or file? If so I would download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website. Save them to a file, then uninstall the printer and all of the software and turn off printer or disconnect from system and restart. Then start from scratch with the install, but install the drivers or software first before turning on the printer. See what happens then. Google has some info on Cyclic Redundacny errors which some seem to point to corrupted files.
I have tried that before, with the manufacture website download. It finished before and said that a previous version existed and then quit with the install.
When you download the file, save it to a folder on your desktop. Uninstall the previous version before you start the install. You can download microsofts installer cleanup utility from this link which contains a link to the download file, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 That can sometimes do a better job of uninstalling than add/remove programs.
It worked. I am not sure what step in the ENTIRE troubleshooting process did it but something did it. HELL YEAH. Seriously this has been going on for too long. Just today actually but that is long enough!!!!!!!!!!!
