Subject: printer install XP ProOS: XP ProCPU/Ram: 1 gegManufacturer/Model: Generic |
Comment: A friend of mine is trying to install a HP 820C printer onto a XP Pro computer. He can't seem to get it done and lost his disk, both the printer and the pro. Is there a way to get it to install as a generic or whatever to get it to work. I racked me little brain on this. Thanks, Jim jmarksbery

Reply: (edit)I clicked on 820CSE. I clicked on Windows XP Pro. Didn't you read the following partially Quoted? The driver solution for this product is included in your Windows XP operating system and is already on your computer. There is no need to download anything i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)My friend is having the problem, I said the same thing but he can't get it to insall. He lives in Arozona and I live in KY so I can't check for him. I linked him to microsoft and he tried their suggestion and he said it didn't work. I thought if I could find a driver I would send it to him and let him try again. Also I thought the 64 bit may have something to do with it. Thanks for the try friend, Jim jmarksbery

Reply: (edit)If your friend has no WinXP CD they can borrow one for those purposes. Any version of WinXP should work. I searched Driver Guide and there are no XP drivers available on that site.

Reply: (edit)Yeah, that's what I told him. I'm not sure if 32 bit and 62 bit would be different. I works on his regular XP computer but not on the 62 bit Pro. Thanks jmarksbery

Reply: (edit)There may not be any WinXPx64 drivers available at all. WinXPx64 was not intended to be a home OS. Therefore drivers for home use class printers may not have been included. How does your friend intend to maintain thier system without a CD. Tell your friend to retrieve thier installation key before the install goes south and they can't retrieve it any longer. They can download Magic Jelly Bean Key Finder to retrieve the key. http://magical-jelly-bean-keyfinder...

Reply: (edit)Well, I don't know. I think he may have gotten it used as he has no software for it! Not sure on that. When ya are poor, you do as a poor man does! ;-) jmarksbery

Reply: (edit)Have him try using the hp 990c drivers. They are considered universal drivers for hp's deskjets. Usually you can print with them, but may lack some of the extra functions you would get with the actual drivers. RBest
