Comment: Tried posting this on the Dell forums but I'm not to sure as to the technical proficiency there as most posts are from angry consumers with broken computers... serves me right for buying Dell I guess. So I'm asking you guys for help too Trying to install my new HP PSC 1215 All-in-one printer, but my Dell 8300 really, REALLY doesn't like it. Once installed, I get constant blue screens (BSOD) stating the old "DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL", it also mentions the USBPORT.SYS... I'm no pro, but I'm guessing there is a driver conflict going on here(!). I've tried installing driver updates for all the hardware that could be conflicting, but to no avail... Hardware includes: Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro Compro TV Gold Plus TV card Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse 700 series (connected through PS2, not USB) HP support has suggested a few fixes, but none have worked so far. Checked the IRQ's in device manager, none are sharing addresses so I don't think the problems there. Even reformatted hard drive with clean install of XP Home, adding hardware to different PCI ports. No joy. Reseated memory, everything I can think of...! Any help would be greatly appreciated before I take a hammer to both printer and computer and fashion some tastefull, post-modern paperweights... Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something, and if everybody does something, then everything will be done.

Reply: (edit)Is this printer connected by parallel or USB? If USB, disconnect the printer. Look under installed printers and remove all entries and reboot. Install the drivers from the CD. If prompted to connect the USB cable while installing the software, do so, otherwise finish installing and reboot. After the computer is finished rebooting, connect the USB cable from the printer. Windows should see the device and configure it correctly. If the driver install doesn't seem to go well download and run Regcleaner to remove reminents of past software. Verify that the USB port your are attempting to use is functioning correctly by first looking in device manager and then testing with another USB device. Reboot bewteen tests. If the device is a legusy parallel port device, check your printer manual to verify compatibility with WinXP. You may need a newer driver for the printer if it was designed to run on an older OS. Post back. Find Regcleaner here: http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/archives/reg-cleaner4.3.htm

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the response. Printer is a USB device. Checked all USB ports, all functioning ok. Tried connecting with different USB ports (six in all...!)Drivers are designed for XP and install with no problems. Only trouble is once they are there, the blue screens decide to pay a visit. Just can't think of anything else to try... Thinking it may just be a weird conflict with my Compro TV Gold card...? Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something, and if everybody does something, then everything will be done.

Reply: (edit)Would be a pain but you could try removing the TV card temporarily and find out if that is the problem. I would suspect any existing fax modem before the TV card. When installing the printer drivers try not installing any of the drivers or software except the print driver. That machine should have OCR and fax capability. Those are the areas to look for conflicts. Especially, the OCR.

Reply: (edit)Ok. Turned out it was the Compro TV Card. Caused me nothing but trouble ever since I put that baby in. The teletext driver was interfering with the printer for some reason?!? Thanks for the help. I am now going to go and reverse my car over the Compro card... several times.
