Printer ink problem

I have a epson stylus photo 820, the red light goes becuase I am out of ink, so I put brand new ink catridges in it and the red light is still on, it won't print anything?

I tried downloading the latest drivers but it still does not work

I am using windows XP

I also downloaded a monitor thing from thier site and it says that the black ink catridge is not correctly installed.

is the gold chip on the printer or cartridge damaged? if so you will need a new cartridge for the ink or a new ink cartridge holder for the printer. or did any of the ink get on the gold chips? if this is the case go buy some electrical contact cleaner and whatever you do do not wipe the chips let the cleaner dry on its own. and also make sure the power is off and the cord isn't plugged in. (you know the risk of electrical shock and damage to the equipment)hope this helps :-)
