Printer Causes Laptop to Crash Under Certain Conditions

Hewlett-packard Deskjet 3520 printer

Specs: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
My friend had just bought a brand new HP Deskjet 3520 printer which he has installed via USB into a brand new HP Pavillion dv6. We have installed the printer with the corresponding installation disk and also updated the drive, but the computer still crashes when prompted to print. I thought it might be overloading the USB port, but the problem arises that when you are printing and you continuously scroll (using the scroll on the mouse) then it prints without crashing. The problem is that it crashes (blue screen of death) when you do not scroll and being a college student who has to write 10-30 page essays, we do not want to be scrolling for hours on end. Obviously (being new) it is under warranty, but we wanted to see if it was something obvious before sending it back. Any advice would be much appreciated.
