Hello all,
I'm an absolute newbie at this, so do forgive me if the answer to my question is blindingly obvious..
just inherited an old system from a friend. he removed his first HDD and left me with the other one. after booting up i get the message Primary Slave HDD Error, together with a S.M.A.R.T disabled message. what is going on?

I'ts probably just a jumper in the slave position on the same cable as another drive. Try resetting the jumper by going to manafcacture's website and install, boot, and see if it detects in Bios as Primary or Secondary Master.
