Hi

I have a user who bought a 80 gig hard drive and he split it into 3 partitions which worked fine. Then he made a 4th and after doing this he now gets primary ide not detected , secondary ide not detected.
Any ideas ?

Each partition was 20 gig.
Thanks

Repartitioning a drive should not cause this problem.

Primary ide not detected indicates a hardware problem. Partitioning is purely a software function.

I suspect that there is something the user is not telling you. Did they take the cover of the computer for any reason? Something that is not necessary to re-partition a hard disk.

But what else did he do? Even if he made a complete hash of it and deleted every partition on the disk, the BIOS would still detect the drive.

ok I have tried various jumper/cable combinations, to no avail. If I remove the slace disk which is a 20gb the pc will pick up the 80gb at detection but when it goes to the next screen (system configuration) it then hangs on primary master detection.
I have put the 80gb disk in my own machine, removed partitions and formatted but still does the same.
Do you think it is needing a bios upgrade ?

Thanks
