Hi,
Can some one help me with this.
My computer using win XP, recently it got a problem that I can't restart it through STRAT>TURN OFF COMPUTER>RESTART.--it just did nothing. If I manualy hit reset button then after restart, it stuck at "Primary Master Hard Drive Failed", But if I turned power off then restart it went through fine.
I am not good at computer hardware, can someone tell me what should I do to fix it.
Thanks in advance

1st of all, what did you do to cause it? I assume it was working properly & then something happened?
There is no turning back, now that you've woken up the demon in me...

Open the case and make sure the cable is seated well into the drive and the mainboard.
This is hardware only not related to your virus infection. Hard drive failed message is from the bios saying it did not get a response back from the drive electronics which have to be engaged before you can get the the platters to boot the system.

Thanks for ersponse.
One more question:
Why when I hard boot( turn off power),it will be OK each time, but reset not working and I can't shut it donw through Windows.

Wait a minute. Reality is that it in fact is not a g"hardware" problem at all. Hi, I found your message in the middle of my search for the exact same reason. I got a call from my sister in law to check out her HP pc cause trust me, I know what I'm doin. Anywho, It was at the exact same time as the other computer went down as mentioned above. I am also a avid watcher of Tech.TV and they had announced a new virus alert. This one hit big. At the time I had Earthlink as my ISP and my network wasn't connecting. I called and they said Everybody who had earthlink in CA was down. It had gotten thier main server. What it does is cause your computer to crash. When you restart Master boot record fails and it can't recover. Now I have never heard of any virus that does this but the thing somehow got into the bios. It made the hard drive first in the master boot sequence. That way it never looks for a floppy, CD rom, or network boot. It just contiually stops at the error in the hard drive and give you blue screen. It has nothing to do with connections. It is a nasty one.
